Thank you to our sponsors, visitors, coop hosts and volunteers for coming out to learn about Chickens as Zero Waste Heroes.
The 2016 Funky Chicken Coop Tour® took place on Saturday, March 26, 2016, produced by and benefiting the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Urban Poultry Association of Texas, Inc. We celebrated the many innovative ways Austin’s chicken keepers are tapping into their feathered friends’ potential to transform household waste into valuable compost and eggs, while minimizing the waste our city sends to the landfill.
Hey, we have a call to action below if you want to help us with a study on chickens and zero waste.
The event had 10 coop stops, including backyards, a school, and an inspirational community for the chronically homeless. Chickens were the stars but they had a wonderful supporting cast, with ducks, goats, fish, gardens, and rainwater, compost, and lots of love.
The Tour raffled a deluxe coop package, sponsored by Happy Hen Treats.
Congratulations to Melissa Caldwell of Austin as our winner!
Those hens will be happy with their new coop – and special supply of treats!

Come learn more on raising backyard poultry with the Austin and Central Texas Backyard Poultry Meetup’s upcoming events.
